VelloDoc should be usable by everyone, including people who rely on a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or other assistive technology. This statement describes what the site does today, where it falls short and how to report a problem.
Our goal
VelloDoc aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. The site hasn't been formally audited against that standard, so it doesn't claim full conformance.
What's in place
- A "Skip to content" link at the start of every page.
- Labeled page regions and navigation, including breadcrumbs.
- Menus that open from the keyboard, report whether they're expanded, close with Escape and return focus to the button that opened them.
- Visible focus outlines on links, buttons and form fields.
- A label on every tool setting and form field.
- Progress, errors and results announced through live status messages.
- Page selection tiles that are buttons and announce whether each page is selected.
- Decorative icons hidden from screen readers.
- Smooth scrolling turned off when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Pages in seven languages, with right-to-left layouts for Arabic and Urdu and the page language declared for assistive technology.
Known limitations
- Changing the order of files and pages relies on drag and drop, which needs a mouse or touch screen. To control file order without dragging, add files one at a time in the order you want.
- Redaction areas are entered as percentages of the page instead of drawn on a preview.
- Tools don't show a preview of the result before it's downloaded.
- Files produced by the tools may not be tagged for accessibility, and OCR text can contain recognition errors.
