Extracting pages answers a common request: send only the part that matters. Instead of forwarding a 60-page report because two pages are relevant, select those two pages and VelloDoc creates a new PDF containing just them. Your original file isn't changed, so you can extract a different selection for each person who needs one.
How to use Extract Pages
- Add the PDF and wait for the numbered page grid.
- Select the pages you want in the new file. For most of a document, choose Select all and then deselect a few.
- Check the selection count above the grid.
- Select Extract Pages and download the new PDF.
Extract, split or remove?
These three tools overlap, so choose by the result you want.
- Extract Pages gives you one new PDF made of the pages you select.
- Split PDF gives you several PDFs at once, one per range or page, packed in a ZIP.
- Remove Pages gives you the original document minus the pages you select.
- The rule of thumb: If you're keeping a small part, extract it. If you're dropping a small part, remove it.
Page order in the extracted file
- Original order, not click order: Selected pages are written in their original document order, whatever order you clicked them in. Selecting pages 9, 2 and 5 produces a three-page PDF ordered 2, 5, 9.
- If you need a different sequence: If the new file needs a different sequence, extract first and then rearrange the pages in Organize PDF.
Sharing less is safer
- Send only what's needed: Sending only the pages someone needs is a simple privacy habit, because a full document can contain names, figures or notes never meant for that reader.
- A new document: The extracted file is a new document, so it doesn't inherit the original's title and author fields, but the content of each page is unchanged and still worth reviewing.
- For areas inside a page that must not be shared, use Redact PDF.

Sending one section of a report
Share the two pages of findings a colleague asked for instead of the full report with its appendices and internal notes.
Keeping a signed page on file
Pull the signature page out of a long agreement to store it with other signed records or send it back for countersigning.
Uploading only the required pages
Application portals sometimes want just an ID page or a single form page. Extract exactly those pages from a longer scan.
Limitations to know
The output always follows the original page order and carries no bookmarks from the source. The page grid shows numbered tiles instead of previews, so confirm which page numbers you need in a PDF viewer first.
Extract Pages: common questions
Is my original PDF changed?
No. VelloDoc works on a temporary copy of your upload and returns a new file. The temporary copy on the server is deleted after the download finishes.
Can I extract pages from several PDFs at once?
Extract Pages works on one PDF per job. To combine pages from different files, extract from each one and then join the results with Merge PDF.
Why are pages in a different order from how I selected them?
The extracted file always follows the original page order. Rearrange the pages afterwards with Organize PDF if you need a custom sequence.
Does extraction keep text selectable?
Yes. Pages are copied without being converted to images, so text, links and image quality are the same as in the original.
