Flipping is not rotating. A rotated page is the same page turned round, and the words still read normally once you tilt your head. A flipped page is the page seen in a mirror: the writing runs backwards and the layout swaps sides. That is what you want when a sheet was scanned from the wrong side, when artwork has to be printed in reverse so it comes out the right way on a transfer, or when a plan needs to be shown as it would look from behind.
How to use Flip PDF Pages
- Add the PDF.
- Choose which way to flip. Left to right mirrors each page like a mirror on the desk. Top to bottom mirrors it like a reflection in water.
- To flip only some pages, select them on the page grid. Leaving nothing selected flips every page.
- If the file is password protected, enter its password in the PDF password field.
- Select Flip Pages and download the result.
Flipping and rotating are different things
They are easy to confuse because both change how a page looks, but only one of them reverses the reading order of what is on it.
- Rotating turns the page: Rotate PDF spins a page by 90, 180 or 270 degrees. The text stays the right way round; you just have to turn the paper or your head. Use it for a page that came out of the scanner sideways.
- Flipping reverses it: A flip reflects the page across its middle. Text becomes mirror writing, a signature runs backwards, and anything on the left is now on the right. Use it when the image itself needs to be reversed.
- Two flips undo each other: Flipping the same way twice returns the page exactly to where it started, so it is safe to try one and change your mind.
- A flip both ways is a half turn: Flipping left to right and then top to bottom gives the same result as rotating 180 degrees, which is usually the simpler way to say it.
How the page is flipped
- Drawn, not photographed: The page is redrawn through a reversing transform rather than being turned into a picture, so text stays selectable, vector lines stay sharp at any zoom, and nothing is re-encoded.
- The page keeps its size: A flip reflects the content across the middle of the page, so the sheet size, orientation and margins are exactly as they were. Only the content changes sides.
- Page by page if you want: Selecting pages on the grid flips only those, which matters when one sheet in a bundle went through the scanner the wrong way and the rest are fine.
- Rotation is respected: A page that already carries a rotation is flipped as it appears on screen, so the result matches what you were looking at when you decided it needed flipping.
When a flip is the right answer
- Scanned through the sheet: Thin paper scanned face down, or a photograph taken through a window or a light box, arrives mirrored. One flip left to right puts it back.
- Iron-on and heat transfers: Transfer paper is printed in reverse so the design reads correctly once it is pressed onto fabric. Flip the artwork before printing.
- Etching, screen printing and engraving: Any process that presses a plate onto a surface reverses the image, so the source has to be reversed first to come out the right way.
- Seeing a plan from the other side: A site plan or a seating chart sometimes has to be read from the opposite side of the room, and a flipped copy saves everyone the mental gymnastics.

Limitations to know
A flip reverses everything on the page, including text, so a flipped document is meant to be looked at rather than read unless it is flipped back or printed through a surface. Links and form fields keep their original positions and will no longer sit over the content they belonged to, so flip before adding either. Bookmarks and metadata are unaffected.
